The occasion marked not only half a century of dedication to traditional skills, but also the official opening of our newly completed showroom — a space designed to showcase the artistry, heritage and enduring appeal of handcrafted rocking horses.
The morning began with a formal welcome from our Manager, Lin, who reflected on the organisation’s journey over five decades. From modest beginnings to becoming recognised internationally within the specialist world of rocking horse making and restoration, the business has grown into a respected centre for traditional craftsmanship — proudly rooted in Yorkshire. Mr Dealtry spoke warmly about the importance of heritage skills and independent makers within the region, praising the team’s commitment to preserving a craft that is both artistic and deeply historic. The Team then had the honour of Mr Dealtry officially opening the new showroom alongside two of our longest-serving members of staff, Barbara and Julie. Between them, they represent decades of experience, dedication and knowledge — a living link between our past and present.

Following the ribbon-cutting, our guests were invited on a guided tour of the workshops. Here, the true heart of the business could be seen, skilled craftspeople carving, assembling and finishing each horse by hand. The Chairman met members of the team and gained insight into the meticulous processes involved — from shaping solid timber forms to applying traditional gesso finishes and hand-painted detailing. One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity for Mr Dealtry to try his hand at “tacking up” a horse under Julie’s expert guidance — fitting the bridle, saddle and traditional tack that give each rocking horse its distinctive character. Laughter and encouragement from the workshop floor added to the celebratory atmosphere, demonstrating the warmth and camaraderie that underpin the business.
The visit also coincided with one of our carving courses, allowing the Chairman to meet students who were mid-way through learning the intricate skill of carving a horse’s head. Watching both seasoned professionals and enthusiastic learners working side by side illustrated the organisation’s commitment not only to craftsmanship, but to education and the passing on of skills to the next generation.

Throughout the day, there was a strong sense of pride — not only in reaching the 50-year milestone, but in the recognition that our work continues to place Yorkshire firmly on the global map within this specialist craft. Orders and students arrive from across the UK and overseas, drawn by the reputation built steadily over five decades.
The celebration also marked the formal launch of our commemorative anniversary logo, which will be used throughout the coming year to honour this significant chapter in our history. The specially designed emblem symbolises both tradition and forward momentum — a reminder of where we began and the exciting future that lies ahead.
As we look toward the next 50 years, the anniversary year promises further events, workshops and opportunities to celebrate a craft that continues to captivate collectors, families and makers alike. Wednesday’s visit was not only a ceremonial opening, but a powerful affirmation of the value of heritage skills, community, and Yorkshire pride.
